Tia Nina – JUICED, and an appreciation
I don’t have much to say about Tia Nina (J Van Stone (Leah Curran Moon), Sammy Rain (Ilana Silverstein), and Sticks (Lisi Stoessel) because I think their art speaks for itself. Even if I have to explain this to some people. What I will say is that Tia Nina deserves a bigger place in modern dance DMV history. A feminist rock band with this kind of chemistry and unbridled enthusiasm is what we needed and need still. While they are no longer active and have moved on to new adventures, they remain a supergroup of powerful women worthy of posterity’s attention and at the very least, an appreciation post here. The idea of going on stage as a rock group sans instruments and giving you a performance with a message while not having to resort to a guilt trip is a skill few have achieved. Here below is one of their incredible shows I was lucky enough to film. Long live Tia Nina.
JUICED screams yes! to sex-positive, gender-mashing, genre-defying, rock-n-roll performance. Through inventive physical theatre, crowd participation and original rock music, feminist punk rock dance band Tia Nina leaves the audience juiced and begging for more. JUICED stars J Van Stone (Leah Curran Moon), Sammy Rain (Ilana Silverstein), and Sticks (Lisi Stoessel).
