FAQS
What is DITD?
Dancing in the District was founded in 2013 by David Dowling as a dance film venture with the goal of humanizing the modern dance community. A highly expressive, experimental, and thought-provoking art form, modern dance art does not spoon feed its patrons. Because of this, it can be challenging to attract new audiences to it. DITD brings to the foreground the dedication, hard work and humanization of the art form and its artists. Since its founding, it has expanded to include more mediums of dance, as well as Artist Talks, Dance News, Politics, Dance Media and Dance Reviews! Our two main focuses are Artist Talks and Dance Reviews. Our mission is to give Dancers in the DMV area exposure and a platform to talk about their art, and a space where show reviews can live. Dance, as part of the Arts community, is a medium that is currently under attack. It is starved for reviews and its spotlight has been halved. Everyone needs the Arts. We are here to do our part!
What are our values?
We are a minority-owned organization that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the Arts. We are fiercely Pro-LGBTQ+, BLM, Women’s and Indigenous rights, as well as Pro-Choice. We vote Liberal, and we’re proud of it.

We CAN review your show!
We also pride ourselves on transparency. Our reviews are fair and we excel at exploring the human angle as well as the artistic.

-We don’t exchange money or favors for reviews.
-We ask two complimentary tickets, and access to show photos. (Which we will not reproduce outside of the review, and will credit the photographer.)
How do I get my own Artist Talk interview? / Can we collaborate on a promo/event/etc?
Interviews require more time, and we approach artists when we can.
While there are no hard set set parameters, we prioritize Women, Minority and LGBTQ artists.
