You Didn’t Boycott The Kennedy Center, Now Trump Has His Name On It.

I wrote an article in February about boycotting the Kennedy Center, and despite what I would call a solid case, you decided on a Diet Boycott with Lemon. -so Trump has renamed the Kennedy Center, placing his name first as "The Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts". Now I'm back to tell you that this Diet Boycott with Lemon isn't going to work.

So you’ve decided to boycott the Kennedy Center…

I know it wasn't an easy decision, but, you're doing the right thing. Don't worry, it's natural to question whether or not this is, in fact, the right thing. Sometimes, even doing the right thing brings with it collateral damage, both internally and externally. It's especially difficult when the right thing directly affects those you care about. But in order to arrive at the right thing, you must break out the scale of Anubis and weigh your heart against the feather of Maat.

Kelly King and Keira Hart-Mendoza Lead Dance Protest of the Kennedy Center

Respected and highly accomplished dance artists/activists Kelly King and Keira Hart-Mendoza organized and choreographed a dancing protest on Monday, the 17th on the Kennedy Center grounds. About 50 local dancers and community members showed up in the 40-ish degree wind in response to the recent takeover of the Kennedy Center by the Trump administration. While there was minimal police and security interference, protesters were asked to refrain from waving flags. No posters with any writing were present, it can stand to reason they also would have been contested by police. The protest comes at an unofficial start of boycotting and push-back from the arts community on the Kennedy Center in light of its recent submission to Trump.

I’ve Been Here Before…Or Have I? Alvin Ailey at The Kennedy Center by Ashayla Byrd

I’ve been here before. At the age of 25–which is 50 in dancer years–Ailey isn’t new to me anymore. It wasn’t until I sat down to write this review that I realized I reviewed one of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at this exact time last year. This year, I am joined by my partner, someone who is quite bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when it comes to all things dance. Taking a page from her book, I decided to come into this performance with somewhat fresh eyes.

10,000 Dreams Gala Performance at The Kennedy Center by Sylvana Christopher

The Kennedy Center’s 10,000 Dreams educated & entertained Choo San Goh fans and Washington audiences eager to support this new festival. Attracted by the chance to see Choo San Goh’s work for the first time as I had heard about his beautiful work, Birds of Paradise, performed in the 80’s. This gala concert highlighted three of Goh’s works, Momentum performed by Singapore Ballet, Ballade performed by Goh Ballet with dancers from The National Ballet of China and Fives performed by The Washington Ballet.
