Choreographer Note: World Politics begins with a simple and overwhelming question: what do we do with a world that insists on repeating itself?
Drawing from Karl Valentin’s absurdist universe, the piece brings together body, clown, and movement to inhabit that question through fragility, humor, and contradiction. A migrant figure tries to hold onto an idea while the world seems to move in another direction.
Between awkwardness and poetry, the ridiculous and the unsettling, the stage becomes a space where play is not an escape, but a form of resistance, the minute possibility to look again, imagine differently, and transform that which once seemed inevitable.
This show is part of the 3rd Annual Latinx Movement Festival that takes place at Dance Place (@danceplacedc)!

The Latinx Movement Festival in Washington, DC is a dynamic annual event that celebrates the expansive artistry of Latinx dance makers and cultural workers across the United States. Founded and directed by independent artist Gabriel Mata, the festival is rooted in the value of movement as both a physical and cultural practice. The festival highlights Latinx creators whose work engages contemporary, queer, and traditional forms of performance, movement, and storytelling. The Latinx Movement Festival DC offers a platform for voices often underrepresented in the dance and performance fields, while creating a welcoming space for cross-generational and interdisciplinary collaboration.
